I have created a gitlab account with my github account, but when I try to login to the docs page in your post with my gitlab identity, I get this error message.

Thanks for the fix it does work now! 👍️ However I'm not allowed to edit or fork pages, just add new pages.
I'd be happy to help you with the documentation and could even do a German translation if you like, since I'm a native speaker.
